7 The LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast desert. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything. -Deuteronomy 2:7
I woke up today around 6 AM and open my NIV Study Bible and turned to the book of Deuteronomy to spend some time with the Lord. I have to be honest and say that until God convicted me, I really didn’t spend a lot of time in the Old testament but I have felt drawn to it to see what I learn about Jesus. I’ll be posting more about what I learn but for now I have to share this verse. In Deuteronomy Moses is reminding the Israelites good God has been to them and how they should love God with everything they are. In verse 7 of Chapter 2 he reminds them how the Lord was with them as they were wandering in the desert.
In my life I have had a lot of desert times in trying to understand my circumstances because of my cerebral palsy or not having my father in my life, and in those times my heart can often fail me causing me to think that God has forsaken me and left me alone in my desert. Your circumstances are different than mine but you still find yourself in a desert. Disability? Cancer?Death of a child? Lost of a job? Being a single parent? What do you do in theses times?
We need to take God at his Word, when he says he’s watching over us and is with us we need to trust Him even if we can’t feel him near us. To have this kind of trust takes us loving Him with everything we have. Mark 12:28-30 says:
28One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
29“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
There’s times when I don’t feel like God loves me but because I go to His Word which reminds me that he does, those feelings are stamped out. If I just love God with my emotions than my faith in him is based on how I feel and not on the Truth. We all need to keep our eyes in the Word so We’re reminded that Jesus is with us and is with us if our circumstances change or not. Deuteronomy 2:7 brought me great joy today. Read it and may you be blessed.
