Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.-Psalm 73:25-26

June 23rd will be my one year anniversary married to Robin. This past year has been one of the happiest but also one of the most roughest ones in my life.Since we got married Robin has have health problem after health problem and unable to work, our apartment flooded twice in eight months, left our old church, and have been at our wits end trying to figure out our circumstances, but God is the strength of our hearts and our portion forever.

In Psalm 73,the psalmist is trying to deal with why it seems that the wicked and evil people seem to never have any problems. We all want to know why the good suffer and often think God is being unfair. As the psalmist pures out his heart to the Lord, he admits that he almost gave up on God but thanks the Lord for never giving up on him.And in verse 25 and 26 he says that his tank is empty, that he is burned out physically and spiritually but proclaims that his hope rest in the Lord.

It’s not a sin to say we can’t understand why were in the middle of a storm, Jesus just wants us to trust him that he’ll calm it and til he does he’s in the middle of it with us. Our hope must be rooted in the Hope that is in Jesus Christ. Our flesh and heart may fail even unto death but God will never fail.If our situation in this life never changes we can still have hope because Jesus is alive and we will one day be with him in glory.Troubles will enter all of our lives but take heart Jesus have overcome the world(John16:33). They enter to test our faith, make us grow in Christ, and to get us to the point where we turn to God for help. But even in the times that we can’t understand let us hold tight to our heart the promise of having Christ forever. We can’t focus on our the things of this earth for they are only temporary but our time and joy with Jesus is forever.

3:1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.-Colossians 3:1-4

It’s not saying that your circumstances have no meaning, I’m not being harsh, it’s saying that they can’t control you and that their effect on you are limited to this life. God has used my cerebral palsy to bring him glory and to bring me closer to him. In his love for me he has decided to not heal my cp in this life. You see, my hope is not in having no pain in this life, it’s trusting that Jesus is God,he really did died for my sins, and rised from the grave bringing me into relationship with God forever. Come what may in this life, I have God forever. I’m not say God doesn’t still work miracles, he does, but our faith can’t be that fickle that if that miracle doesn’t come we just walk out on him. That’s not faith! There will come a time when I see Jesus face to face and that is the greatest promise of all. yeah we won’t have cancer, disabilities, and pain anymore and that is awesome but heaven will not be heaven without the strength of our heart and portion being their. If you have one prayer let it be, “Give me Jesus!” In your trials can you say but God….?

Here is some scripture to think about:

12 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. 15 We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in Christ we have hope  in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.

20 But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.-1 Corinthians 15:12-22

Praise God that he’s alive, because our hope is in a living God!
